As the Kite running competition was close, it was the main subject during conversations; people were praising the event saying it would be the biggest in twenty-five years. The tournament was going to be held in their district. The night, four days before the tournament, Amir was sitting on the fireplace with his father, sipping tea and talking. Ali had served dinner and retired for the night with Hassan. Baba, Amir's father told him, " I think maybe you will win the tournament this year. What do you think ? " Amir was so amazed, he didn't know what to respond because it was rare his father show trust in him. He felt happy and he knew that to be more close to his father and show him he was worthy, he had no other option but to win. He would began to envision the place they would go together if he won, his father would read him his favorite story and maybe, just maybe he would be pardoned for killing his mother.
I felt empathy for the little Amir as he thought that Baba held him responsible for the death of mother. Amir never new his mother because she died at his birth.
You're right - it does feel unfair that it seems like he has that burden placed on him by his father.
